Injection pen

This medicine is an aid in the treatment of diabetes and is used ‘off-label’ for weight loss in adults with a BMI of ≥30 or ≥27, if weight-related conditions are present. It suppresses appetite and promotes weight loss. Its active ingredient helps to lower blood sugar levels if they are too high.

This medicine is supplied in a pre-filled injection pen. One pen contains 4 doses. One dose is injected once a week. The medicine can be self-administered by the patient. This solution is available in various strengths ranging from 0.25 mg to 1.0 mg.

The liquid comes in a pen. Please also read the instructions for use included in the pack. This medicine must be injected just under the skin in the thigh, stomach or upper arm. Use the medicine once a week on a fixed day. Make a note of this day in the calendar included in the pack or on your phone. The time of day or whether you take it with food does not matter, but choose a fixed time to avoid forgetting. The fixed day can be changed, provided there are at least 3 days between two injections.

The starting dose is 0.25 mg per week. After 4 weeks, the dose is increased to 0.5 mg per week. After at least 4 weeks on 0.5 mg, the dose may be increased to 1 mg (and possibly later to 2 mg) per week. If a dose has been missed, it must be administered within 5 days. After 5 days, the dose should be skipped; then resume the usual dosing schedule.
